Tiny houses and ADUs pack a lot of  household needs into a small footprint, and that means running a refrigerator, lighting, and entertainment without the electrical infrastructure of a full-sized home. Some are grid-connected and just need backup for outages; others are fully off-grid and need a complete power system. A power station takes up less room and is more flexible/ adaptable than a separately installed battery bank, inverter, and charge controller.

Light, Medium, and Heavy Use

  • Light use: Grid-connected backup — covering essential loads like lighting, a fridge, and device charging during an outage that lasts a few hours to a day. Look for 500–1,500Wh of capacity — our Compact to Mid-Range collections fit here.
  • Medium use: Off-grid ready, running efficient appliances day to day — a mini fridge, LED lighting, laptop, and entertainment — typically 3–5kWh of daily use. Look for 1,500–3,000Wh of capacity with solid continuous output — our High Capacity collection fits here, paired with a portable solar panel (100–200W) to recharge day to day.
  • Heavy use: Full independence, running larger loads continuously — a mini-split heat pump, a standard-size fridge (which alone can use 1–2kWh per day), and more. Look for 3,000Wh or more, with an expansion battery or a hub-based Power Systems setup for sustained daily demand, and a larger solar array (200W+) to keep up.

Many off-grid tiny house owners keep solar focused on lighting, refrigeration, and electronics, and lean on propane or wood for the heaviest heating loads — a mix that keeps the power system sized reasonably.
